Akian Skyguard Light Armored Vehicle TL9

The Skyguard is a wheeled light armored vehicle intended for air defense
and point defense operations. It is used by the ground-mobile forces of the
Akian army, and it is also exported in moderate numbers. The Sea League
(Overnale) is known to have a number in service. Most of the power plant
capacity is dedicated to the laser, and endurance can be increased by a
factor of about three if no combat power is required.

Macedonian Heavy Grav Tank TL9

The Macedonian is a typical heavy grav tank design. It is large, heavy,
and not particularly fast. Since antilaser aerosols and smoke can severely
degrade the battlefield performance of the main armament, a 12cm mass driver
cannon is carried as a backup. Both weapons are mounted in a remote turret,
and they cannot be fired simultaneously due to the power supply. The MD gun
can also be used for indirect fire support.

Akian Peregrine Hovertank TL9

The Peregrine equips certain Akian units, primarily second line recon-
naissance. Its speed is superior to tracked vehicles over smooth ground, and
superior to grav vehicles at low altitude, at a cost which is competitive
with the latter.

Pegasus Armaments LTX TL9

The Pegasus Armaments LTX (Light Tank Experimental) was designed in
response to a solicitation by the Parlek Corporation Security Department for
a low maintenance, low manpower light armored vehicle primarily for starport
security duties. The Parlek Corporation's idea of what that might entail
included a specification that the main weapon was to be capable of penetrat-
ing a typical unarmored starship hull. Long range weaponry was not a major
requirement, and it was determined that a 16cm gun/mortar system would be
suitable. The control and sensor systems are adequate to eliminate the need
for more than one operator. Four prototypes are still being evaluated.

Griffin Island Weasel Light Tank TL9

Like many small countries on developing planets, Griffin Island indus-
tires concentrated on producing locally adapted variants of standard Imperial
Data Package vehicles for their armed forces. Production has ceased since
the Sea league invasion. The Weasel is a light armored vehicle intended to
be readily air-transportable (to include being helicopter lifted) and to
provide limited armored support for light infantry units. The turret mounted
8cm gun/mortar system provides a reasonable capability for engaging other
light armored vehicles, and can be readily adapted for indirect fire support.

Akian Cossack APC TL9

The Cossack is a fairly conventional TL9 APC design. The only unusual
feature is the provision of a 390 ton grav unit, which was included by the
designers who thought there was no point in wasting the excess energy from
the smallest fusion plant that could be installed. Lifting attachments for
carrying slung cargoes are included. Up to 192 tons can be carried at a
maximum unstreamlined speed of 300kph.

Akian Ironfist SP Gun TL9

The Ironfist is a variant of the Cossack APC design. Since the MD gun
requires 35MW to operate, the weapon cannot be fired while the vehicle is in
flight, and therefore no stabilization is provided. The gun is in a hull
mount with limited traverse-gross aiming is done by turning the vehicle.
Like the Cossack, the grav units are substantially larger than strictly
required for flight, and up to 223 tons of material (typically ammunition)
can be lifted with a maximum resulting speed of 300kph.

Akian Percheron Cargo Vehicle TL9

The Percheron is a variant of the Dragoon APC, with an open topped
chassis, frequently used as an artillery towing vehicle in units equipped
with towed howitzers. The 16cm towed howitzer weighs 7.88 tons, and reduces
the vehicle's speed to 133/80kph. The cargo capacity of 21 cubic meters is
sufficient to carry up to 300 16cm projectiles. The vehicle is frequently
modified to carry a ring mount for a machine gun.

standard Imperial Data Package. Intended for reconnaissance and patrol du-
ties, it can carry a total of five crew members for situations which might
requirement the capability to dismount a foot patrol.
Like all grav vehicles, the Model 135's performance is fairly sensitive
to weight changes. Unloading half of the fuel, all of the 4cm ammunition and
all cargo gives the craft 1.5Gs of useful thrust, allowing speeds of up to
1680kph.

Intercity Bus TL9

This type of vehicle is typically found providing low cost mass trans-

highway network. The roomy seats make extended trips barely tolerable. Cargo
capacity amounts to 0.7kl per passenger. Fuel cost amounts to about Cr0.01
per passenger per kilometer when fully loaded, and would be the main contri-
bution to the cost of travel. Total cost of a ticket to allow for marginal
loads, profit, driver salary and vehicle amortization would probably be about
Cr0.02/kilometer. <It should probably be noted that this vehicle could be
built without change at TL7 or TL8>

standard grav powered landers are carried for planetside operations.

Notes: Dow Rieder suggests that a more reasonable fusion rocket fuel
consumption is about 100 times the current listed value. This
would make the endurance 1.2 days, but additional fuel could be
carried. Without doing this, interplanetary trips would be rather
time consuming, but this would still be a reasonable planetary
           approaches patrol vessel.

IDP-9851/L Lander TL9

The IDP-9851/L lander is included as part of the IDP-9851 patrol boat
design. It includes a minimum size fusion plant and a conventional grav
unit developing 380 tons of thrust. While 121.8kl of cargo space is
included in the design, carrying a full 121.8 tons of cargo results in a
useful acceleration of 0.06G, making an orbital ascent very time consuming.
Performance statistics given below are for an unloaded vehicle.

include the lack of artificial gravity, limiting passenger appeal, and the
unstreamlined hull, resulting in a dependence on port facility shuttle

Modified IDP-9734 class Freighter TL9

The IDP-9734 (Imperial Data Package) is a standard design going back
to pre-imperial times. It is a simple in-system freighter using fusion
rockets for propulsion, and is very cost competitive with grav-driven
vehicles of similar performance. The version shown below has been modified
by the addition of a 5MW beam laser for support of asteroid mining and
prospecting. Since the total output of the fission pile is 5MW, the laser
can only be operated for limited periods, unless the crew is willing to
rely on vacc suits for life support.

Notes: Dow Rieder suggests that a more reasonable fusion rocket fuel
consumption is about 100 times the current listed value. This
would make the endurance 1.5 days, but additional fuel to return
the vessel to reasonable endurance levels could easily be carried.

Type S Scout/Courier TL9

This is the earliest version of the venerable Type S design. The maneu-
ver drive is standard grav, which means that performance falls off to 1G
thrust beyond deep gravity wells. No grav plates or inertial compensators
are available at TL9, making this vessel uncomfortable for the crew. A bay
for a four displacement ton vehicle is provided, but no vehicle is included
in the cost below. A fuel purifier is included, and fuel tankage is suffi-
cient for two jumps.

Courser class Surface Warship TL9

The Courser is a typical TL9 purpose built warship. By this tech level
the surface warship is obsolescent, but there is no easy substitute when
there is a requirement to provide continuous escort to other surface vessels.
The Courser is equipped with a wide variety of active and passive electronic
detection and countermeasure gear, including the lightweight composite hull
which has an inherently low radar reflectance. The communications gear
includes two high power tightbeam communicators, suitable for communication
with orbiting spacecraft or geosynchronous comm relay satellites. The ves-
sel's main armament consists of three multiple missile vertical launch sys-
tems--two fifty tube light missile systems fore and aft, and a thirty tube
heavy missile system amidships. Statistics for heavy SAMs are shown below,
but any 5000kg missile designed to approximately the same shape can be fit-
ted. Four 20mm six barrel autocannons and a 20MW pulse laser are carried for
point defense. Anti-laser aerosol dispensers (not shown below) are also
fitted, and it was considered prudent to have a point defense system that
would not be impaired by the ship's own passive defenses.
The ship's appearance would be rather startling to someone accustomed to
lower TL warships--there is no large superstructure, and the only visible
weapons are the cannon in their low, rounded turrets. Extensive computer
control has reduced the crew to a mere 50 men, enough to provide three full
shifts of operators. Damage control is adversely affected by this, but this
is considered to be acceptable.

Retaliator VTOL Medium Attack Plane TL9

The Retaliator VTOL attack plane is built locally from standard
data packages by numerous governments both inside and outside the Imperium.
The antiaircraft threat at TL9 is usually sufficient to ensure that it is
more profitable to employ attack aircraft with long range standoff munitions.
As a result, no cannon is normally installed on the Retaliator. One or two
cannon pods can, of course, be carried if the circumstances warrant it. The
Retaliator is equipped with an extensive electronics suite, including laser
communication (Highly jam resistant, but requiring a computer to use from a
moving vehicle), and LADAR (for both target acquisition and designation).
The radar jammer is only intended for use against SAMs and similarly low-
powered applications. Additional jamming support would be used against
heavily defended targets.

Seagull Maritime Support Helicopter TL9

The Seagull is equipped as a general purpose maritime support helicop-
ter, and could be used from a shore base or a fairly small water vessel.
Submersible warcraft are still a threat on balkanized worlds at TL9, and
starships engaged in illegal activities frequently resort to hiding under-
water, so the Seagull is equipped with magnetic and sonar sensors for sub-
merged search. The bomb bay (which doubles as a cargo bay as required) would
ordinarily be used to carry one or two homing torpedoes. A four seat passen-
ger section is carried for liaison work. Four light hardpoints are provided
which can be used to carry light depth charges or air to surface ordnance for
use in low threat areas. The rotors fold for ease of shipboard storage.

Skywhale Cargo Blimp TL9

The Skywhale class cargo blimps were built for the Transportation Divi-
sion of the Windsor AgroCorporation, for use on the dense atmosphere planet
Windsor. As a developing colony, Windsor's transport infrastructure is
fairly primitive, and it was felt by corporate management that the use of
lighter than air transport craft could be economically justified for certain
classes of medium priority cargo, for some over-water routes, and for emer-
gency delivery of supplies to backcountry settlements. While enough fuel for
20 hours of continuous operation can be carried, crew fatigue limits normal
flights to 12 hours (a range of 900km).
