Briefly, in 'Arrival Vengance', a mention of 'the sombre Imperial Anthem'
is made.
But, has anyone have any idea on what IS the Imperial Anthem?
My private nomination for the Imperial Anthem (fit for 11,000 worlds...)
"Nebraska" by Peter Buffett Beautiful, but long...about 6 minutes
"One by One" by Peter Buffett Awsome and majestic ... but hardly
'sombre'! Still...
"Agincourt Song" by William Walton Mr. Walton wrote many movie songs
reflecting the glory of the British
Empire. This one, a Latin war
hymm, is a good reflection of
Imperial Naval Tradition, but still
the song speaks of GLORY, not solemity.
It _IS_ short, though .. 2 1/2 min.
"Lothlorien" by Enya A good match, and only 2 minutes, and
at least calm. But too many flurishes
for an Anthem. (The Anthem should
be recoginizable, even if played by a grade-school band, or a
fourth-rate backwater Tech Level 0 bunch of half-barbarians, played on
hollow rocks, who think that the Emperor is God Himself)
Modern Anthems which seem to make the cut...
"The 'Internationalle'" the old U.S.S.R. Anthem. Sounds
fine to me, and is 'somber' enough,
if a bit imnposing.
Malta's Anthem Quite nice; if I remember correctly,
it has a good, 'classical' sound.
Bulgaria A good, solid, Middle Europe anthem.
It even has some character.
But, my final choice for the "Imperial Anthem" IS .......
Japan! Their anthem is short, graceful, solemn, and it's age would
satisfy the Vilani members of the Imperium. (The anthem is
at LEAST 2000 years old)
Incidentally, is there any 'theme song' you would give to Traveller, the
game?( Off the top of my head, I'd give "One by One" to Classic Traveller,
"We Didn't Start the Fire" to MegaTraveller, and that sad song in "Platoon"
(Adagio in C?) to the New Era.)
Alvin Plummer
(who obviously is on anagathics today!)
