Has anyone tried the Trade rules?

Has anyone tried the Trade rules?

Has anyone tried to make heads or tales (pun intended) out of the TNEv: trade
rules? I have a problem with ANY good bought or sold at a given location
having the same price per ton. Somehow TL15 computers should cost more per
tyon than rice - and certainly someone should be willing to pay more for the
computers....

Yes, I know this is Xboat. We're running a campaign set in 1110 using
TNE rules~r. My gut feel is to scrap them and go with book 2.

The TNE rules are basically the same as they were in MegaTraveller, and yes
it doesn't make sense that 10 Tons of Information have the same value as 10
Tons of grain. They are evil and I don't like them.

If I understand the charters of this list, and the TML, this message, even
though refering to Book 2, and a campaign set in 1110, should have been
directed to TML, instead of Xboat.

Now the problem with the book 2 system is that the numbers of cargo types
are kinda limited. One of my old Traveller refs had expanded the trade
charts to
100 items instead of the 36 that were listed in Book 2. You could take the
new charts and add a price / ton, and ton range for each item. I am
probably going to be doing that.

That's not true at all. The price of goods has always been based on a
few simple variables. The type of world the goods are going to, the
type of world the goods were coming from, and the tech levels of each
respective world.

So, if the world that you're heading to is some TL14 technological
wonder, with computers coming from a TL15 world, but there is very
little agriculture, then rice coming in from a TL9 would actually be a
scarcer then the computers, thus the higher price for rice. See, it's
all really simply economics, and supply and demand.

Also, in case anyone out there is wondering, a simple glance give me
the impression that the tables from MT and TNE are the same. I could
be wrong about one or two little sections though (I didn't do a
thourough comparison).
